2022 Beginnings

This weekend was a great weekend with respect to the weather in Oregon. We have had a lot of rain lately with some snow mixed in as well. For various reasons, it has been about two months since Spring and I have done any hiking. We chose a nice hike close to home to start 2022 off.

We decided on a nice hike with descent elevation change, Mount Talbert. This hike was a nice hike through the woods. I would say there wasn't anything extraordinary about this hike. No waterfall. No amazing view. No river. But this reminded me that in life, we are often looking for the next big thing to happen. And in doing so, we miss where God has us at the moment. We miss what God is wanting to show us that is right in front of us. This hike was definitely an example of God's Creation that is all around us. It was a reminder that I needed on a beautiful winter Saturday.

Spring was working on Sunday. So after church, I headed up the Columbia Gorge to Latourell Falls. With all of the rain we have been having lately, I wanted to see how the falls were flowing and they did not disappoint. The power was incredible. I love waterfalls. I continue to be in awe of the power in God's beautiful Creation on display.

The time outdoors this weekend was what I needed. I needed to spend time out in God's perfection. Times like this feed my soul more than I can put into words. Times like this are where I connect with God the most. I connect with God in other ways as well but outdoors is where I connect with him the most. Two months was too long.

What feeds your soul? Where are you able to connect with God the most? How are you making those times part of your spiritual rhythm?
